Gary D. Clapp
Gary has been involved as both a design engineer and as a patent attorney in the computer and network architecture field for over 30 years. After earning a B.S. and an M.S. in electrical engineering from Purdue University in 1963 and 1967, Gary worked as a research and development engineer, project manager and staff consultant for the U.S. Naval Avionics Facility, Sanders Corporation and Raytheon Corporation in the fields of radar and sonar signal processing, meteorological and oceanographic systems, data and image processing, guidance systems, satellite surveillance and weather systems, communications networks and encryption and data communications security.
After receiving a J.D. from Suffolk University in Boston in 1977, Gary worked for the law firm of Fish & Richardson in Boston before turning to the corporate world, becoming Patent Counsel at Data General Corporation, Wang Laboratories, Digital Equipment Corporation and Bull HN Information Systems. A short list of Gary’s extraordinary breadth of patent drafting and prosecution experience includes: computer and network architectures and components, ranging from microprocessors and state machines to high end parallel and multiprocessor systems; operating systems and applications programs ranging form microprocessor systems to large system operating system architectures and distributed and networked systems; image and data processing systems including medical ultrasound, tomography and blood and cell analysis systems and components; medical data, support and analysis systems; character and handwriting recognition systems; artificial intelligence; electromagnetic devices and systems; peripheral devices; networks, including internet systems and components; mass storage systems and system servers.
Since his corporate career and establishing his own law practice as a sole practitioner in 1991, Gary has been of counsel to Davis, Bujold and Daniels, P.L.L.C., forging a continuing close relationship with the firm over the past 12 years. Gary’s unsurpassed technical and legal experience are an invaluable asset to both the firm and its clients.
